Network and Systems Manager

Solebury School seeks a highly qualified Network and Systems Manager to manage day-to-day IT operations performance, including network administration and systems management, while working with the Director of Technology to ensure technical projects are in alignment with School mission and department goals. This role is essential in maintaining a smooth running, secure, efficient and up-to-date environment to assist meeting the school’s overarching mission.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time, exempt position and is benefit eligible. The school’s administrative schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The academic schedule and, therefore, the need for IT support and a fully functional infrastructure, often includes evenings and weekends. Therefore, this position will occasionally include weekend and evening hours, as well as on-call hours.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee and maintain the school network infrastructure and server stack to provide consistent operational connectivity with minimum downtime, with an eye towards the best methods for evolving the school network as technologies evolve
  • Develop and document IT related Standard Operating Procedures for operations and disaster recovery
  • Work with the IT Director and Heads of various academic and administrative departments to discover and propose technological solutions for existing issues or improvements
  • Devise and establish IT policies and systems to support the implementation of IT strategies that align with the school’s academic program and overall mission
  • Research and recommend new products and/or systems for potential purchase
  • Regularly inspect/evaluate technological equipment and software to ensure functionality and efficiency
  • Identify the need for upgrades, configurations or new systems
  • Assist in building relationships with vendors and creating cost-efficient contracts
  • Build and maintain relationships with key people/organizations:
  1. Director of Technology to assist providing technical support and resolve problems
  2. Director of Academics on a regular basis to discuss work progress and priorities related to curriculum
  3. Facilities Management Team to discuss, maintain and constantly improve the school’s IT and facilities management infrastructure
  4. Director of Finance to provide detailed project and budget analyze
  5. IT staff to project goals, establish deadlines and outcomes
  6. Hardware and software suppliers

Qualifications

  • Relevant and demonstrated experience working as a Systems Administrator in a production environment. A professional qualification or other evidence of competence in the following specialist technology areas : Firewall, Networking, Wireless, Switching, Servers, Services, Applications
  • Expert knowledge of server technologies and an in depth knowledge of security issues is essential, as is the ability to balance these appropriately with the business and academic needs of Solebury School
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Team-work and team building skills are essential
  • The confidence to work under pressure and to deliver effective and high quality solutions to problems

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: Significant lifting (up to 50 lbs), carrying, pushing and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity
  • Able to manage multiple projects at one time, deal with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines and work with a varied and diverse array of people
