Last Saturday, our Spartanbuilders Club day-tripped to New York City for Maker Faire NYC 2017 in Queens. See more photos below.
The Maker Faire is an an all-ages gathering of tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, authors, artists, students, and commercial exhibitors. All of these "makers" come to the Maker Faire to show what they've made and what they've learned. Our students checked out drone races, robotics, 3D printing demonstrations of all shapes and sizes, and more.
In other Science news, AP Chemistry spent their first lab activity exploring physical properties of metals using flame testing to analyze a sparkler toy. (See photos in slideshow below.)
And finally, our Honors Chemistry class took a field trip to explore the beauty of pure substances and mixtures (crystal stones at Journeys Spiritual Gifts at nearby Peddler's Village). This is fun, annual start-of-school trip for AP Chemistry. Students took home a small crystal sample to be analyzed in future homework assignments!
