A Note From Steve Benoit, Head of Foreign Language
Brett Glauser '11 came to us in 7th grade, already possessing quite an interest in and knack for foreign language. The language teachers at Solebury School have done our best to stoke that passion all throughout his tenure. He has remained steadfast since middle school in his devotion to all things French; his grades are stellar, and he always pushes well beyond the curriculum. He attends my office hours regularly, just to have an extended conversation in French. Brett has participated in two school-sponsored trips abroad, consistently reaching out and seizing every opportunity to speak to the local people.
Brett began taking Spanish in a summer program (outside of Solebury) before his sophomore year. He returned to school empassioned, bound and determined to continue learning Spanish alongside his French. This necessitated that he work independently with Jodi Woods and Emma Ferguson, auditing their classes and haunting their offices. He essentially learned Spanish II and III in one year, with some generous coaching from Emma and Jodi. This year, in his first formal Spanish class at Solebury, he is taking Spanish IV Honors, concurrently with French IV Honors! He is the star of both classes. Next year, he’s set to be our first student enrolled in both AP French and Spanish Language classes. He is a prime example of a student who, with the support of our dedicated faculty, is truly encouraged to follow his path and flourish.
