2016-2017 Annual Report | Letter from the Chairman of the Board

“The Journey Continues”

2017 has truly been an incredible year at Solebury School. At this time a year ago, we were just putting the finishing touches on our journey to create and deliver Solebury’s long-term strategic plan, appropriately entitled “Imagine Solebury.” Following approval by the Board of Trustees in January, we immediately moved into the implementation phase to transform what we imagined Solebury could be into reality.

We established working groups to focus on each of the seven strategic priorities; what they have accomplished in the intervening months is nothing short of amazing. To support our enrollment targets we expanded our recruiting efforts, streamlined our application process and launched newly redesigned promotional materials as well as the Solebury website. Our academic team began the process of redefining Solebury’s academic vision starting with a succinct and focused mission statement and continued the implementation of the new daily schedule and, this fall, introduced a Global Education program.

At the heart and soul of Solebury is our faculty and staff and this working group focused on improving the observation and evaluation system; now all faculty and staff will work with their supervisors to set annual goals. Reaching out to the community around us through strategic partnership will help strengthen what Solebury offers its students. This summer we collaborated with Bucks County Playhouse on a summer camp theater program and this fall launched a partnership with Delaware Valley University to offer calculus for college credit.

One third of our students are boarders and we’ve made significant advances in our Residential Life program including increased promotion of physical fitness and an enhanced program for weekend activities. Key to the Solebury experience is our campus environment. The Board’s Buildings & Grounds committee has worked tirelessly to create a Master Plan that addresses Solebury’s need for expanded facilities as we work to fulfill our strategic plan. The Master Plan is scheduled to be completed soon.

Solebury School is truly blessed with an incredibly generous and supportive community that gives of themselves in so many ways out of deep and enduring love for the school and what it represents.
Last but certainly not least of our strategic priorities is ensuring the financial stability and sustainability of Solebury School. This forms the foundation upon which all we wish to accomplish will be built. Solebury School is truly blessed with an incredibly generous and supportive community that gives of themselves in so many ways out of deep and enduring love for the school and what it represents. As a member of our community, I thank you for all that you do to make Solebury what it is today and what it can be tomorrow.

“Every day you may make progress. Every step may be fruitful. Yet there will stretch out before you an ever-lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-improving path. You know you will never get to the end of the journey. But this, so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb.” --Winston Churchill
