Solebury School seeks a qualified, full-time Chemistry & Physics teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. This position will start on or around August 25, 2023. Qualified candidates will be excited to be a part of a school community that is built around the ideals of mutual respect between teachers and students and a relevant, meaningful academic program. On-campus housing based on availability.
Essential Functions
- Teach up to four total high-school Physics and/or Chemistry classes (from general level to Advanced Placement) in 80 minute blocks meeting 2-3 times each per week, incorporating labs and activities within each of the courses
- Foster a strong working relationship with students and families
- Lead two trimesters of after school activity, 3:45-5:15pm three days per week
- Perform assigned weekend duties as part of the boarding program, with number of weekends based on housing
- Serve as an advisor of up to 8 students
- Engage in continuing professional development
- Collaborate within and beyond the department
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Physics, or related field
- Demonstrated experience teaching high school students
Preferred
- Master’s degree or higher in Physics or Chemistry
- Boarding and/or independent school experience
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Physical: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, reach for or otherwise move objects, including textbooks and other teaching materials. Sedentary work involves sitting, standing and walking around the classroom
- Communication: Activities include both hearing and talking to express or exchange ideas and information
- Environmental conditions: Activities occur mostly inside and occasionally outside
- Valid driver’s license required as well as the ability to pass a variety of background checks
