Digital Film Production Teacher

FSLA Classification: Non-exempt, hourly, part-time
Reports to: Head of the Film Department and Director of Studies 
Purpose: Teach at least one course per trimester on film production

Essential Functions
  • Teach an Introduction to Film Production class each trimester and possibly an additional elective as mutually agreed upon during the spring trimester
  • Teach students how to turn a creative idea into a plan for the realization of a finished film
  • Implement equipment maintenance
  • Train students in all areas of film production, including appropriate use of equipment
  • Create a positive working environment, be a positive role model/mentor for students, and represent the department professionally to the campus and wider community
  • Communicate and work with the IT department
  • Responsible for teaching students:
    • To create a plan that satisfies both ethical and logistical considerations
    • To use professional script writing software Celtx or other free software
    • Storyboarding
    • The mechanics of digital video cameras
    • The mechanics of audio recording
    • To use NLE software for editing
    • To manage production of a project, casting, shooting, post production
    • How to block scenes
    • Techniques for editing
    • Organizational techniques for workflow
 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in film production or related field, or a minimum of three years of professional work experience in the film industry
  • Knowledge of current film production techniques, equipment, and software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated organizational ability
  • Professional demeanor, flexibility, and the ability to respond to multiple simultaneous demands
  • Auditory, visual and physical skills to be able to perform the tasks outlined in this job description
  • Flexibility regarding work schedule, including potential for weekends and evenings at times
