Reports to: Manager of Facilities/Maintenance; Director of Facilities
Solebury School (New Hope, PA) seeks a highly qualified and motivated General Maintenance Worker to join our Maintenance team. This position performs a wide variety of work in the general maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment, as well as a wide variety of other tasks as requested so that the school’s facilities support school operations; and shares on-call responsibilities of the department as requested. The anticipated hire date is as soon as possible this spring.
Essential Functions:
- Performs regular maintenance and repairs of buildings and equipment, both independently and as part of a team. Tasks may include mechanical, electrical, woodwork, carpentry, plumbing or cleaning tasks as normally performed in home and school repair settings
- Responds to work order requests as directed by Facilities Manager
- Operates and repairs various equipment/tools
- Responds to weather events, such as snow removal and flood recovery
- Share in the team’s after hours emergency on-call rotation
- Performs inspection, cleanup and worksite restoration activities, i.e. storm/water damage, picking up litter, disposing of waste and debris, cleaning equipment and surfaces
- Responds to and takes appropriate actions in event of emergency or incidents to resolve, confine or prevent potentially injurious or hazardous conditions
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Positive attitude and interpersonal skills; willingness to work as a team membe
- Experience and aptitude with mechanical, electrical, plumbing tasks, willingness to learn and increase capabilities
- Plumbing and HVAC experience, though it is not mandatory
- Experience with computer programs- such as Word, Excel, Google Documents, Calendar and others, with a willingness to learn and use the school’s facilities management software (Operations Hero)
- 3-5 years experience in one or more building trades, including construction
- Knowledge of:
- Building maintenance and repair with the ability to measure and do basic math
- Uniform code books
- Maintenance and repair of hand tools and gas powered equipment
- Safety practices and procedures relating to the building trades, including OSHA requirements
- Ability to:
- Read and interpret specifications and blueprints
- Coordinate several projects simultaneously and set priorities
- Foresee project problems and make adjustments, able to plan and coordinate work schedules
- Provide technical support as necessary (part of the role of a working lead)
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, teachers, students, and community members
- Communicate effectively in both oral and written form
- Perform basic first aid, CPR and Stop the Bleed with training
Physical Requirements and Work Environment

The ability to exert significant physical effort in heavy work, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials weighing 20 to 50 pounds; may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials weighing up to and over 100 pounds

Additional Requirements
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to pass a driver’s test in school van
Must have and maintain reliable transportation with the ability to get to the school during inclement weather or after normal business hours for emergencies
