Lead Custodian

Solebury School is looking for a qualified Lead Custodian to start immediately.  This position will be the working supervisor for all campus/school related indoor and outdoor custodial activities, as well as a working member of the Facilities maintenance team for event set up and take down, grass/lawn maintenance, emergency snow removal, academic program support.  This is a full-time position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • As lead custodian, responsibilities include but are not limited to:  
    • Maintain sufficient supply levels for custodial team; track inventory

    • Coordinate simultaneous projects and set priorities

    • Forecast problems and make necessary adjustments

    • Plan and coordinate work schedules of the cleaning team

    • Assist in training of team members

    • Provide technical support to custodial team as necessary

    • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, teachers, students, and community members

    • Perform and assist with all custodial functions including floor care, supply inventory maintenance, general cleaning (indoor and outdoor)

    • Perform regular preventive maintenance including equipment cleaning; make equipment repairs within the scope of abilities

    • Respond to and take appropriate actions in event of emergency or incidents to resolve, confine or prevent potentially injurious or hazardous conditions

    • Direct custodial contractors as needed, including involvement in the hiring process and oversight of all custodial care at the school


Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Grounds and tree maintenance, i.e. mowing, planting foliage, shoveling snow, etc.

  • Cleanup and work site restoration, i.e. picking up litter, disposing of waste and debris, cleaning surfaces, etc.

  • School function support – room setups, take-downs and cleaning

  • Respond to emergencies (snow storms, power outages, hurricanes, etc.) in a timely fashion, including assisting with snow removal

  • Operate a variety of tools and equipment safely including standard vehicles and grounds-keeping and floor care equipment

  • Perform various additional tasks as requested by Director of Facilities or appointee

  • Provide working support to the school's facilities team as directed.

  • Participate in facilities team on-call rotation to provide emergency/urgent facilities and/or custodial care services on campus


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years leading a custodial team required, school setting experience preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team while working as a team member

  • Positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills

  • Communicate effectively in both oral and written form

  • Demonstrated experience with modern janitorial methods and floor care

  • Experience and aptitude with computer programs and the ability to use basic productivity software (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Power Point)

  • A combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates an ability to perform the duties and responsibilities as described

  • Live in close proximity to New Hope, Pennsylvania to be able to provide timely response during inclement weather

  • Knowledge of:

    • Methods used for floor care

    • Organized work control

    • Maintenance and repair of vacuums and general cleaning equipment

    • Safety practices and procedures relating to the building trades, including OSHA requirements

    • Math to include measuring distance and calculating quantities


Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

Ability to exert significant physical effort in heavy work, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of materials weighing 20 to 50 pounds; may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials weighing up to 100 pounds.  Willingness to work outside in inclement weather. Thorough understanding of workplace safety including safe and effective performance during adverse conditions.
