Solebury School seeks a qualified, experienced Learning Specialist to join our Bridge Department beginning in the 2024-2025 academic year. An intentionally small, all-gender, independent day and boarding school for students in grades 9-12, Solebury is nestled on a rolling 140-acre campus in the Pennsylvania countryside. Solebury students and faculty pursue learning as a shared endeavor. On-campus housing is possible based on availability.

Our Bridge Program classes help students whose success is hindered by executive functioning challenges, difficulty expressing ideas in writing, and/or other diagnosed learning differences. Students take a full schedule of classes and meet with a Learning Specialist in small groups to help them stay on track, complete assignments, and develop strategies to achieve the success their intelligence merits.

Essential Functions:

  • Teach up to six (6) Bridge Program classes
  • Depending on the successful candidate’s background, possibility to teach one (1) section of Foundations English
  • Collaborate with other members of the Bridge Department to plan and implement individualized support for students enrolled in learning support classes
  • Foster a strong working relationship with students, colleagues, and families
  • Lead an after school activity (such as newspaper, walking club, or coaching) from 3:45-5:15pm three days per week for two out of the three trimesters
  • Participate in assigned weekend duties as part of the boarding program with the number of weekends based on housing
  • Serve as an advisor of up to eight students
  • Engage in continuing professional development

  • Strong organizational, time management, and planning skills

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in special education, English, or related field

  • Demonstrated experience teaching students with various learning differences 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in special education or related field
  • Boarding and/or independent school experience

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Physical: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, reach for or otherwise move objects, including textbooks and other teaching materials. Sedentary work involves sitting, standing and walking around the classroom
  • Communication: Activities include both hearing and talking to express or exchange ideas and information
  • Environmental conditions: Activities occur mostly inside and occasionally outside
  • Valid driver’s license required as well as ability to pass a variety of background checks
