Manager of Facilities/Maintenance

Solebury School (New Hope, PA) seeks a highly qualified and motivated Manager of Facilities/Maintenance to oversee the maintenance of the entire campus, with a focus on customer service, while assisting in the oversight of facility operations and budget management. Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Facilities, this is a working hands-on role.  The manager will be responsible as the back up to the facilities on-call should assistance be needed. A qualified candidate has experience in a variety of Trades and can fill in any gaps needed to fulfill the team's changing needs. The anticipated hire date is as soon as possible this spring.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist the Director of Facilities with the day-to-day operations of the facilities department with responsibility for managing/supervising the maintenance team
  • Supervise and manage the School maintenance & grounds staff (5 positions in total)
  • Oversee and manage the School work order system (Operations Hero)- including ensuring the timely completion of all work order requests and preventative maintenance scheduled, coordinating staff deployment for ticket response, and completing associated administrative duties
  • Assist facilities staff with troubleshooting, repairs, and completion of maintenance tasks performing building maintenance duties both independently and as part of a team.  Tasks may include painting, electrical repairs, plumbing, carpentry, and heating and ventilation systems maintenance
  • Work closely with the Custodial Manager to supervise and manage the day to day operational needs of the department
  • Coordinate with Director of Facilities to fulfill purchasing needs, within budgetary constraints
  • Assist with upcoming projects, work orders and possible remodels of spaces
  • Forecast and manage maintenance employee’s use of paid time off
  • Assist in setting and maintaining a high standard of work quality, by setting the example and helping other staff to maintain that standard
  • Comply with all safety and health regulations, as well as staying current with building codes
  • Keep inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment, and report needs to the Director of Facilities
  • Respond to emergency calls for maintenance and repairs and dispatch facilities staff
  • Work with and maintain relationships with contracted vendors
  • Participate in response to weather events, such as snow removal and flood recovery
  • Help to advance employee and team skill sets by teaching and training various Trades
  • Adaptability to change hours if and when needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of experience
  • Past experience as a team lead or Managerial experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical systems (including relevant equipment and tools) preferred
  • Ability to work in a team and alone when needed with the ability to follow instructions from supervisors
  • School experience, especially with independent schools, preferred
  • Able to use and navigate computer needs such as Word, Excel, Google calendars, work order systems and Building Automation Systems

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • The ability to exert significant physical effort in heavy work, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials weighing 20 to 50 pounds; may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials weighing up to 100 pounds

  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods; ability to bend, kneel, stoop, and lift or move heavy equipment.

  • Willingness to work outside in inclement weather

  • Tasks are regularly performed with potential exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as strong odors, fumes, dust, wetness, humidity, machinery, vibrations, temperature and noise extremes, disease, pathogenic substances, and toxic/poisonous agents.

Additional Requirements

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to pass a driver’s test in school van
  • Must have and maintain reliable transportation with the ability to get to the school during inclement weather or after normal business hours for emergencies
