On October 1, 2025, the Solebury School’s Board of Trustees announced with great enthusiasm that Patricia C. A. Sasser has been unanimously elected as the next Head of School. Sasser was chosen following an extensive nation-wide search and will officially assume her duties on July 1, 2026, becoming Solebury’s 9th Head of School.

Patricia Sasser brings 19 years of experience in independent schools to her new role. Most recently, she served as the Assistant Head of School for Academic Affairs at Saint Mary’s School in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her previous positions include Head of the Upper School at Ransom Everglades School in Miami, Florida, and Dean of Students at The Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Connecticut. Sasser began her career in independent schools at The Madeira School in McLean, Virginia, where she worked as a Major Gifts Officer, Assistant Dean of Student Activities, and Director of Residential Life. Before transitioning to education, she spent seven years at ESPN in Bristol, Connecticut, serving as an Associate Producer.

Liz Tallett Wavle P’11, Co-Chair of the Board, expressed her confidence in Sasser’s fit for the Solebury community, noting that the search committee, Board, and entire school community were immediately impressed by Sasser’s energy, passion, and leadership. Wavle emphasized Sasser’s alignment with Solebury’s commitment to progressive education, her devotion to helping students develop lifelong skills, and her warmth and care for others, which the Board believes will ensure her success as the school enters its second century as an independent institution.

Sasser is a graduate of the University of Virginia, where she received a B.A. in English and African American Studies. She also holds an M.A. in Education and Human Development from The George Washington University. Additionally, she is expected to complete an Ed.D in Organizational Learning and Leadership at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill in August 2027.

“Solebury is such a special place,” Patricia said. “From the moment that I stepped on campus, I knew it was where I was meant to be. It’s a school that so completely aligns with my own values and places students at the center. Students and adults alike get to show up every day as their true selves in a place where everyone belongs. I am excited to get to know everyone and work alongside Solebury adults who are dedicated to supporting their students and each other.”

Michael Foley P’15, ’16, who serves as Co-Chair of the Board of Trustees and led the Search Committee, highlighted the depth and breadth of Patricia Sasser’s personal and professional journey. Foley noted that Sasser’s life has spanned four countries, five states, and Washington, D.C., enriching her perspective and understanding of diverse communities. Additionally, Sasser’s educational journey includes her time as a boarding student at The Madeira School, and her accomplishments extend to winning an Emmy.

Mike expressed that Sasser’s unique and varied background will be a tremendous asset to Solebury’s community. Reflecting on the search process, which began nearly a year ago as the Board prepared for the retirement of Tom Wilschutz after 18 years of dedicated leadership, Foley acknowledged the challenge of finding a worthy successor. “But we have exceeded our expectations with Patricia. We have found a talented and compassionate educator who will be able to preserve the essence of Solebury while transforming it for future generations,” Mike remarked.

As we prepare for Patricia to join Solebury School as our next Head of School, we will be sharing additional details regarding her transition in the coming months. These opportunities will allow members of our community to meet Patricia and engage with her as her official start date approaches.
We invite everyone to join us in congratulating Patricia on her appointment and in warmly welcoming her to the Solebury family.
