Community Life

Updated 2/3/22

A key part of the Solebury School experience is the sense of community we foster for our students outside of the classroom. Learning at Solebury goes beyond the academic day and we are committed to providing a rich, engaged community life for all of our students.

For nearly 100 years, the values, norms, and feel of the Solebury School community have been passed down from class to class. We recognize that in fall 2021, the majority of our students and parents won’t know the feel or traditions of the pre-pandemic Solebury School. With this in mind, we are mindfully approaching re-engaging our community and re-establishing Solebury’s intrinsic values and norms in our students, faculty, and staff.

Day students may come to campus during weekends—they may not visit in common areas in dorms.

We have removed most of our indoor gathering restrictions. Our shorter assemblies on Mondays and Thursdays will once again be in person. Our longer assemblies on Wednesdays will remain on Zoom for the time being.

  • The Dining Hall will continue to operate as it has this fall, with students being asked to limit their mask-free eating time in that space to 15 minutes or less. Outdoor dining is welcomed and encouraged when weather permits.

Athletics

Our goal is to safely engage in interscholastic competition. Solebury is committed to ensuring the health and safety of our student-athletes and maintaining flexibility to adapt if circumstances require—any changes to our approach will be informed by the most recent state and federal health guidelines.

Testing mandates have been increased to require weekly testing for participation in competitive indoor sports. These athletes are mask-optional while competing, and mask-required while on the bench. Masked spectators are welcome back. Outdoor sports practices and competitions on our campus will be mask-optional for participants and spectators.

For athletes and spectators traveling to competitions on other sites in the Penn Jersey league—their protocols may differ from ours and will be communicated to the athletes prior to their game. For example, other schools may require mask-wearing for outdoor competitions—in that case, we will follow their protocol for that game. If you have any questions, please contact Stacie Anastasio, Director of Athletics.

Afterschool Activity

Solebury School offers multiple afterschool activities such as yearbook, SLAM, yoga, rock climbing, and much more. There are limited options for any students with an approved remote learning waiver. If you have any questions or would like to discuss an independent activity, please contact Stacie Anastasio, Director of Athletics.
