STC Spring Break Broadway Student Summit

By Peter Martino

During spring break, five students in the Solebury Theater Collective traveled to New York City to participate in the Broadway Student Summit.

Day 1

Our first day was a blast! Students took in all of the incredible exhibits in The Museum of Broadway, explored the city a bit, and saw the unbelievable revival of Sweeny Todd—which is seriously not to be missed.

Day 2

The day started with an early morning meeting with the ladies of The View before heading over to the Radio City Music Hall for an incredible behind-the-scenes tour. We even met Valeria, a Radio City Rockette, and did a kickline on the Radio City stage!

After a delicious dinner at Friedman’s with their super talented singing waitstaff, we headed over to Second Stage Theater to see Michael R. Jackson's brand new show White Girl in Danger which was UNREAL! After the show, we even got to chat with the ridiculously talented James Jackson, Jr.

Day 3

Our third day was full of workshops with the Broadway Student Summit. In the morning, we learned the choreography from & Juliet with Joomin Hwang before practicing mindfulness exercises with Alicia Albright. After a quick lunch, we had an audition technique workshop with Erika Henningsen where Annalise Houghton ‘24 and Max Frankel ‘24 got great feedback on pieces they have been working on. Finally, we had an amazing acting workshop with Elia Monte-Brown.

After the workshops, we headed to Mom’s Kitchen for some delicious food and HUGE milkshakes before we caught the third preview of Peter Pan Goes Wrong, an absolutely hilarious way to end this incredible day.

Day 4

Our final day of the Broadway Student Summit had us working on music from & Juliet with their music supervisor Haley Bennett. We also heard from Melanie La Barrie, Matt Raffy, and Brittany Nicholas about their careers and path to broadway! Afterward, we got to see the incredible actors we worked with the past few days in the incredibly fun musical, & Juliet, before heading back to Solebury to start the spring trimester!
