Evening Classes

  • Classes are open to the community, as well as Solebury School students.
  • Classes meet on Mondays or Tuesdays, 6:45pm - 9:00pm, from November 27 through March 6, 2017.
  • Classes are free for Solebury School students. For everyone else, the cost for each class is: $300 if not for credit or $800 for credit (each class yields 1 arts credit).
  • No prerequisites needed. Transcripts available for non-Solebury students.


Anatomy of a Screenplay (meets on Monday evenings, 6:45pm - 9:00pm)
Please note: This course is limited to five adults and five Solebury School students

“When forced to work within a strict framework the imagination is taxed to the utmost - it will produce its richest ideas. Given total freedom the work is likely to sprawl.” The goal of this class is to analyze classic films in order to grasp how structure that supports narrative in order to help the writer create a disciplined, soundly constructed dramatic script. Emphasis will be on the relationship between character and plot, identifying significant story points that drive the narrative forward. In addition to class exercises, and students will apply what they learn to their own work in the following session. This course meets one night per week in the evening. No Prerequisite, 1 credit

This class will be taught by Emmy-winning Chris Canaan, who recently relocated to Bucks County after a career in Hollywood. He has taught classes at UCLA, where he has a masters' degree. He has most recently taught a workshop at the Bucks County Playhouse.

Photography 1 (meets on Tuesday evenings, 6:45pm - 9:00pm)

This is an introductory black and white photography class with emphasis on learning the mechanics of a manual exposure camera and the shooting, processing, and printing of black & white negative film. No Prerequisite, 1 credit.

This class will be taught by Solebury School teacher Kelli Abdoney, a freelance professional photographer and former photo editor of The Herald, a newspaper from Glasgow, Scotland.
