Biography

I have worked as a professional artist my entire adult life. I am constantly painting and frequently have my work included in art shows and galleries.

I have always loved the diversity of talent and thought among the students and faculty here at Solebury, where I have taught since 1993. I have tremendous freedom to teach to the individual student. Whether it is a beginning artist or someone putting a portfolio together for one of the top art programs in the nation, I get to share my love of art with them. The creative process is so important – I firmly believe that it helps young people in ways that extend far beyond the walls of the art studio. It helps them appreciate different perspectives, it helps them problem solve, and it helps them understand the value of making mistakes. All these lessons are important whether it is in painting, in math, in history, or in life.

What do you hope students take away from your classes?
The ability to really "see" the world around them whether in terms of color, light, shape, detail, emotion...across all areas from art to architecture to nature to their relationships with other people. I work on teaching them to observe what is around them more carefully and to fashion creative responses to their lives.
