2017-18 Annual Report | Endowment Gifts

For the past 18 years, Solebury School has partnered with the Page and Otto Marx, Jr. Foundation. The Foundation believes in making strong, independent schools available to underrepresented minority populations through tuition support.

Currently, the Page and Otto Marx Jr. Foundation Fund is Solebury School’s largest named endowed fund — with a balance of more than $1,232,129 — thanks to thoughtful contributions and careful investment. Last year, the Marx Endowment Fund awarded nearly $29,000 in financial assistance, based on our endowment distribution formula which balances providing funds for today’s Solebury School while maintaining a healthy fund balance that will allow for financial distributions for generations.

Lana Whitehead '96 (shown), has been a long-standing hero for this fund. Making it her personal mission to raise funds for the fou ndation match during the Burger and Beer Bash, held each year during Alumni weekend. This year, her partner in philanthropy, Carlton Carter, Jr. ‘98, made a special request, with the help of a microphone, requesting that all donations made during this event be applied directly to the Marx Endowment. Many attendees were happy to help support this very important level of endowment support for all generations of Solebury students — now and in the future.

Support from the Page and Otto Marx, Jr. Foundation is intrinsic to our diverse Solebury community. Throughout the year we work with current parents, current grandparents, faculty and staff, and alumni and friends of Solebury to raise the dollars we need to fulfill the $33,000 match required for the fund.

We are humbled by this level of generosity of our endowment fund donors, and we look forward to welcoming new members to this dedicated group of Solebury supporters. Below is a list of those who helped to build Solebury's many endowed funds during fiscal year 2018.
