Dean of Residence Life

Solebury School seeks a Dean of Residence Life starting the Fall of 2021. The Dean of Residence Life is responsible for overseeing the staff and student residential program and plays an integral part in leading the on-campus faculty who participate in the boarding community. The Dean of Residence Life is a member of the Senior Staff

Essential Functions
  • Develop and assess residential life programming for the boarding students
  • Organize and implement the training of all dorm parent staff and student proctors
  • Train and supervise weekend and weeknight on-duty faculty and staff
  • Support and supervise the Dormitory Heads
  • Coordinate the opening of the school year (room assignments, proctor retreat, etc.)
  • Serve on a variety of committees, both standing (admissions, ozone, child safety) and ad hoc
  • Manage the judiciary committee
  • Manage student issues that may not pertain solely to residential life
  • Serve as a weeknight and weekend admin on-call
  • Oversee the boarding management system
  • Possibly teach one class in a discipline of the candidate’s background

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required, master's degree in counseling desired
  • Experience as a member of an independent school residential life program
  • Experience in a Dean of Students office preferred
  • Interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written
  • Facility with computers and programs used both as a communication tool and for student management
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that at times will include evenings, weekends, and on-call
  • Must live on campus in faculty-provided housing

Physical Requirements and Work Environment
  • Work in generally standard office conditions and climate
  • May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
  • Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to move about the campus from building to building
