2015-2016 Annual Report | Capital Gifts

The Solebury School campus features a wonderful mix of stately, beautifully maintained older buildings and modern, state-of-the-art facilities. Capital funds are raised to support the acquisition, construction, or renovation of our buildings. Although Solebury was not in a formal capital campaign during this fiscal year, there were special capital projects that needed attention.

This spring, we were thrilled to receive extraordinary gifts from the Nakashima family and a small group of generous alumni and alumni parents: a museum-quality, custom-designed Nakashima conference table and 10 chairs. These stunning pieces of functional art reside in the newly minted “Alumni Conference Room” in Solebury School’s Carriage House.

The Nakashima family has been a part of the Solebury School community since the 1950s, when Mira ’59 began school here. Her brother, Kevin ’73, followed years later. Their father is the legendary woodworker and craftsman George Nakashima, internationally known for his inspired, free-edge furniture designs and for pioneering the American craft movement. His studio, located in New Hope, PA, was designated a national landmark in 2014. Mira and Kevin have continued their late father’s artistic legacy at George Nakashima Woodworker.

Below is a list of those who generously contributed to capital projects around campus.
