Solebury School's 2017-2018 Annual Report
Letter from the Chairman of the Board
My family’s association with Solebury School began in 2005 as we searched for a school in which to enroll our ninth grade son. Solebury was at the top of the list and so we planned a visit. Little did we know that this visit would be the beginning of a long, rewarding and loving relationship with this profoundly unique institution.
During that first orientation tour of the Solebury campus, we sensed that there was something very special about this school. On the surface, it could easily have been attributed to the bucolic rural setting of the then eighty year old campus or the quaintness of the many historic buildings that have been repurposed over the years to meet the needs of the school. Clearly, there was also a high degree of activity that filled the campus with a sense of energy.
It’s now several years later and I can say with conviction that, although the above characteristics are important, there are qualities about Solebury that run much deeper throughout the school. At its very core, Solebury is a giving community that is profoundly committed to the education of young women and men. Each and every member of the faculty/staff of the school give of their time, their talent, their experience, and their knowledge. Most importantly, they give from their heart to ensure that the mission of the school is fulfilled.

As a result of Solebury’s shared ethos of giving, our son received a rich and rewarding education — an education that was tailored to build on his passion and strengths and address his learning needs. There is not one person that I can give thanks to. It was the collective effort of the Solebury community working in concert that yielded an incredible educational experience for our son.
Our family will be forever grateful for what we have received from Solebury School. To show our appreciation, we look for opportunities to give back with our time, talents, experience, knowledge, and financial resources. That’s why when I was asked to join the Board of Trustees, I felt honored to serve. I was further humbled when ask to sit as Chair. That’s why we consistently support the annual Solebury Auction and Paddle Call. That’s why we always contribute to the Annual Fund Drive. And that’s why, when asked to pledge to past Capital Fund Drives, we’ve always said yes. And our support will outlive us because we have made a special provision in our wills to this amazing school.
There are many organizations and causes that compete for our philanthropic dollars. We’ve selected Solebury School as our highest priority for the above reasons but also from a practical standpoint: when we contribute to a Solebury project, we know that 100% of our funds will be dedicated to that effort.
Given our shared Vision and Mission for Solebury and the Goals committed to in the Strategic Plan from 2016, each of the options for giving is important but none more important than financial support. As we seek to build on our past successes and grow for the future, I hope you will join me and my family when you are asked to give back to Solebury School in return for what we have all received.
In closing, please accept my heartfelt “Thank You” to each of you for your generous support of Solebury School this past year. Your many and varied contributions helped to make 2018 an incredibly successful year and I’m looking forward to working with you in the coming years to advance Solebury to even greater heights.
