Home and School Association
On behalf of the Home and School Association (HSA), please accept my warmest welcome to Solebury School! We hope you and your child are excited about this new journey, and we want to assure you that the entire school community will be there to support and guide you throughout the year. You have chosen a wonderful place for your child to grow and learn. We look forward to getting to know you!
The HSA is the parent organization at Solebury School. Our main goal is to establish a strong connection between parents and the school by supporting our faculty, staff, and students and the many unique programs we have on campus. We volunteer our time in a variety of ways including:
- Planning and organizing community events and one major fundraising event—our annual spring auction
- Assisting with school-sponsored events, such as theater productions, art shows, and athletic events
Helping maintain our beautiful campus
Last year, parent volunteers accomplished a great deal. Despite very challenging circumstances, our spring auction still raised over $114,000, thanks to the dedication and generosity of parents, faculty, alumni, and students. This revenue helped bolster the Solebury Fund and provided additional support for important initiatives, including professional development for our faculty to teach in a remote environment; technology enhancements to optimize the remote learning experience; a long-awaited renovation of the kitchen in the Holmquist dormitory; and funding that allows the Home and School Association to make grants to faculty and student initiatives each year.
Proceeds from the 2020 auction’s special appeal have helped make it possible for Solebury to get our campus ready for safe, in-person and remote synchronous instruction this fall. They are also providing additional financial aid for our families and meeting other unanticipated needs of our students and community members affected by COVID-19.
During the 2019-20 school year, the HSA was able to provide several grants to support campus programs and initiatives, including the purchase of four new cameras for our photography students, new benches for our walking trails, a perpetual plaque to display the winners of The Duke Ellington Award for Excellence in Music and The Song Craft Award in our music department, and a visit from a food truck to help celebrate last year’s #LoveSolebury giving day. The HSA also offered a well-received family education event focusing on communicating with your teen.
When your child enrolls at Solebury School, you automatically become a member of the Home and School Association and are welcome to attend all meetings. Our first scheduled meeting of the year will take place on Zoom at 9:30 a.m. on September 23. You will receive a link closer to that date. The remainder of the meetings will take place on November 11, January 13, February 10, April 14, and May 19 with details to be determined. Please check the Parents Calendar for updates.
Despite the fact that we are starting this year in an environment that will undoubtedly challenge us in some ways, the HSA is committed to fostering a sense of community and continuing to make a meaningful contribution to our school. Our meetings offer the opportunity to learn about important topics related to the education of your child, to hear from faculty and staff regarding exciting programs and activities, and to have your questions answered by our Head of School, Tom Wilschutz, who attends each HSA meeting. Please join us on September 23, where you will get to know other parents (new and returning) and find out what the Home and School Association is all about!
