Home and School Association

August 2019

Hello Parents,

On behalf of the Home and School Association (HSA), please accept my warmest welcome to Solebury School! We hope you and your child are excited about this new journey, and we want to assure you that the entire school community will be there to support and guide you throughout the year. You have chosen a wonderful place for your child to grow and learn. We look forward to getting to know you!

The Home and School Association is the parent organization at Solebury School. Our main goal is to establish a strong connection between parents and the school by supporting our faculty, staff, and students and the many unique programs we have on campus. We volunteer our time in a variety of ways including:

  • Planning and organizing the annual spring auction
  • Assisting with school-sponsored events such as plays, concerts, and art shows
  • Helping maintain our beautiful campus

During the last school year, parent volunteers accomplished many great things for the Solebury community. For example, the HSA sponsored spring auction raised nearly $100,000 thanks to the generosity of parents, faculty, alumni, and students. This revenue helped bolster the Solebury Fund and provided additional monies for important projects and programs designed to enhance the educational experience at our school. Proceeds from the 2019 auction’s special appeal have already been used to create the IDEA Lab, an exciting new STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) space opening this month. Last year, the HSA also provided grants not only for our committees, but also for innovative faculty initiatives such as recording sessions at Morningstar Studio for students in our Music Department, a subscription to MobileServe for real-time tracking of student service hours, and enhancements to campus life through new games and play equipment for our dorms and funding for our popular Haunted Woods event. The HSA also offered a well-received family education event. We plan to build on this event and offer additional educational activities for our families this school year.

When your child enrolls at Solebury School, you automatically become a member of the Home and School Association and are welcome to attend all meetings. Our scheduled meetings will take place in Walter Lamb Hall Lounge at 9:00 a.m. on the following dates:

September 11, November 6, January 15, April 15, May 27

Our meetings offer the opportunity to learn about important topics related to the education of your child, to hear from faculty and staff regarding exciting programs and activities available at Solebury School, and to have your questions answered by our Head of School, Tom Wilschutz, who attends each HSA meeting. We hope you will join us for our first meeting on Wednesday, September 11, where you will meet other parents (new and returning), be welcomed by our faculty and staff, and find out what the Home and School Association is all about!

Best regards,
