Home and School Association
Welcome to Solebury School and the Home and School Association (HSA)! We are excited you have chosen to join our community and look forward to a year of friendship, learning, and growth. We are proud of the values that make our school unique and are eager to get to know you and your student! You will find Solebury to be a supportive environment, and we will do our part to help you navigate this new and wonderful journey.
The HSA is the parent organization at Solebury School. Its purpose is to establish a strong connection between parents and the school through a variety of initiatives, including regular open meetings that typically include question and answer sessions with Head of School Tom Wilschutz; providing small grants to faculty projects that directly benefit our students; assisting with school related activities such as theatrical productions and athletic events; planning parent mixers; and raising significant funds for the school through our annual auction.
The HSA successfully met last year's challenges to keeping our community strong through fun virtual events including a trivia night, a virtual parent murder mystery party, and a parent education night. Our subcommittees met virtually, as well, and some even had virtual happy hours! Our grants allowed our music faculty to bring in a professional drummer to play with the student Jazz Roots Ensemble, helped establish our new community garden, contributed to the Theater Tech department's prop storage and maintenance efforts, and allowed for a professional piano player to perform with our students in the spring musical.
Our auction, Solebury’s largest fundraising event, raised nearly $116,000 as a virtual event. Our Special Appeal raised over $65,000 for the refurbishment of the Performing Arts Center (PAC), which included an updated climate control/ventilation system. Families will see (and feel!) the benefit of their generosity when they return to campus in September. The remaining revenue supported initiatives across campus that benefit the school community.
As parents of Solebury students, you automatically become a member of the HSA and are welcome to attend our meetings, either in-person or virtually. Our first meeting will take place on Wednesday, September 15 at 8:45am in the Dance Wrestling Room located in the Athletic Center. You will also receive a link closer to the date, should you prefer to join virtually. This will be an option for all HSA meetings this year. Please check the School Calendar for more events and updates.
HSAl meetings give you the chance to hear what's happening at Solebury firsthand and to be involved in your child's school. We also have special guests throughout the year, including Director of College Counseling Tim Gallen and many others. This year, we are also planning to give you the chance to see our school in action after each meeting, through visits to facilities such as our IDEA Lab and our new nature trails. We also try to have fun!
Once again, I'd like to extend our warmest welcome to you and your family!
