College Counseling

The College Counseling office provides individualized post-graduate planning for each student, helping them discover the path that's right for them. Our counselor partners with students and families to find colleges that meet their financial, social, cultural, and academic needs. We meet students where they are in every stage of the process, encouraging them to trust their voices and take ownership of the process with confidence.

The College Process

The college search and application process can be a very exciting time for students and their families. It is a time of self-reflection, investigation and discovery. It is an opportunity to expand upon the interests they have developed during their time at Solebury as well as explore new opportunities at the college level.

9th Grade

10th Grade

11th Grade

Fall

All juniors will take the PSAT in October
Attend Junior College Night with your family in November
Attend Financial Aid night
Attend meetings with college representatives on campus

Winter

Take the college class, held in February and March
Prepare for the ACT or SAT in the spring
Consider taking the SAT prep course offered at Solebury

Spring

Meet 1-on-1 with your college counselor to start building your college list
Research and visit college campuses
Take the practice ACT
Register for the ACT or SAT, if applicable

12th Grade

Fall

Meet with Erin to review your colleges list
Finalize a balanced college list with a maximum of 10 colleges
Register and take the SAT or ACT, if appropriate
Meet with colleges visiting Solebury
Complete your applications and writing supplements, with the support of Lauren
Fill out FAFSA with your parents
Early Decision/Early Action applications are due in November

Talk to your college counselor about next steps

College Prep Useful Links

Common App
Most students will create an account and apply to most, if not all, of their colleges through Common App. Over 1,000 colleges and universities use Common App.

Scoir
SCOIR is our college counseling platform. Students can research and start building a list of colleges, while signing up for fall visits. Parents also have access to assist students in their college selection. Our office uses SCOIR to electronically deliver application materials to colleges.

FAFSA
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid helps colleges determine federal aid, in the form of grants, loans, scholarships, and work-study. The application typically opens by October 1 each year, and you must apply each year.

CSS Profile
Many colleges will ask families to also complete the CSS Profile to award institutional aid.

FastWeb
FastWeb is a scholarship database that is free and easy to use.

College Board
Register for the SAT and access College Board resources here.

Revolution Prep
Solebury partners with Revolution Prep to introduce you to the ACT each spring. Revolution Prep offers 1-on-1 tutoring and test prep to students.
