English as a Second Language (ESL) Program
We feel incredibly fortunate to welcome students from all over the world to Solebury. They contribute to Solebury’s diverse environment and are wonderful members of our community, both in and out of the classroom.
Some international students are immediately successful here without any English support. Others benefit from extra help during their first year or two, building their English proficiency so they can succeed at Solebury and, eventually, in college. For students who need this additional support, we offer the English as a Second Language (ESL) Program.
The ESL Program helps international students sharpen their English proficiency skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, with two main goals:
- To maximize student success in all their courses at Solebury School
- To prepare students with the skills they need to thrive at an American University
International students applying to Solebury should submit a TOEFL or Duolingo score so the Admissions Committee can determine what level of ESL support, if any, is appropriate.
Students in the ESL program typically take one or two ESL classes as part of their overall schedule. Because these courses are individualized and provide additional support, there is a per-course fee for the program.
