Dance Conservatory Program

Welcome to the Solebury Dance Conservatory Program in Partnership with Roxey Ballet

Solebury School’s Dance Conservatory in Partnership with Roxey Ballet Company allows students to have all three experiences at once! Conservatory students will have a Pre-Professional Conservatory level dance experience while simultaneously engaging in the high level academic program, well rounded community, and full social experience that Solebury School offers.

Dance Conservatory Program Overview

Mark and Melissa Roxey designed this conservatory program for dedicated, passionate dancers seeking to elevate their training and artistry in a professional environment.

The Conservatory offers:

Rigorous, progressive technical training in a wide range of dance styles, with a strong foundation in classical ballet.
Creative and choreographic development, nurturing individual artistic voices alongside strong technical ability.
Professional preparation for careers in performance, choreography, teaching, and other related fields.
Integration of technical theater skills to broaden understanding of stagecraft and enhance production knowledge.

Weekly Dance Class Schedule

Weekly Class Structure
Ballet Technique (Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri): 10:00–11:30 AM \| 90 minutes (Full Semester) Intensive classical ballet training focusing on alignment, strength, coordination, and artistry.
Alternative Dance Styles (Modern, Jazz, Contemporary, Ballroom) (Mon, Thu): 11:30 AM–12:30 PM \| 60 minutes (Tri-Semester) Exposure to diverse movement vocabularies to promote versatility and adaptability.
Composition & Repertoire (Tue, Fri): 11:30 AM–12:30 PM \| 60 minutes (Tri-Semester) Students explore choreography and performance of original works and existing repertoire.
Continued Studies (Off-site): 3:30–5:30 PM \| Includes classes, rehearsals, and assistant teaching opportunities (Full Semester) Real-world experience in studio and classroom environments to enhance professionalism and responsibility.
Saturday Intensives
Saturdays feature rotating masterclasses with guest artists and rehearsals for Roxey Ballet productions such as Dracula, The Nutcracker, and works by emerging and established choreographers. These sessions offer students valuable performance experience and industry insight.
Monday - Friday Total Dance Time/Week: 20 Hours There are additional hours on weekends.

Weekly Class Structure

Ballet Technique (Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri):

10:00–11:30 AM | 90 minutes (Full Semester)

Intensive classical ballet training focusing on alignment, strength, coordination, and artistry.

11:30 AM–12:30 PM | 60 minutes (Tri-Semester)

This is a sample schedule for dance conservatory students and is subject to change.

Please note: On Wednesdays, students would have academic classes, clubs and community time during the school day followed by two hours of dance instruction in the afternoon 3:30 - 5:30.

Audition Requirements

To be considered for the Conservatory Program, applicants must:

Submit a one-page essay describing your passion for dance and why you wish to join a conservatory training environment.

Schedule an in-person audition or submit a video audition including:

Ballet class footage with barre, adagio, pirouettes, and allegro
A one to two-minute solo (student’s choice of choreography or classical variation)

Students must also complete an application for Solebury School.
