Each year, Solebury School offers exciting experiences abroad to help students explore new cultures, expand their worldviews, practice another language and create lifelong memories. The following excursions are available for the 2018-2019 school year and enable students to complete the travel requirement for our new Global Education Concentration.
Costa Rica: March 10-17 2019 (Spring Break)
After a successful 2017 program, Solebury School is excited to once again offer a Spanish language immersion and service-learning trip to Costa Rica in March 2019 during the first week of spring break. We will continue our partnership with the non-profit organization Abriendo Mentes ("Opening Minds") in Playa Potrero, a small coastal village of 500 residents in the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica. Abriendo Mentes' mission is to empower community members through youth and adult programs that teach English, computer skills, and fitness.
During their visit, Solebury School students will stay with host families, work on a community project, take Spanish classes, and volunteer with students at Abriendo Mentes. We will also travel around the Guanacaste region to zip-line, hike, kayak, paddle board, snorkel, and visit beaches.
See flyer here. Solebury students in grades 9-12 are encouraged to apply; students in Spanish classes will be given priority. We will travel to Costa Rica on Sunday, March 10 and return on Sunday, March 17. Estimated cost of the trip is $1,800. Financial aid may be available.
The application deadline is November 1, 2018. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Nicole Mount, Director of Global Education, at email@example.com.
"One of my favorite experiences was going to Costa Rica with the school. Having to speak Spanish and immerse myself in the culture was beautiful. I loved it and made a really strong connection with my host family." —SASHA, '19, about the 2017 trip
