TEDxSoleburySchool2015: Victoria Markhoff
So How Do We Actually Get Rid of Mental Illness Stigmas?
Sixteen-year-old Victoria Markhoff is a Solebury School junior, immigrant, activist, and filmmaker, and she is apt to speak of a typically taboo topic: mental illness. She battles with depression and anxiety herself and still has achieved success in both high school and the University of Pennsylvania’s Young Scholars Program. Victoria stands against the stigma of mental illness through speaking, her short film “Before I Go To Sleep At Night,” and even lobbying in front of Congress with NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). Victoria helped start the local Lean-In Circle for A Woman’s Place to help women succeed. She also volunteers in political campaigns and runs a political discussion group, PolitiChat.
